Suzanne Adelmeijer

Suzanne Adelmeijer

Suzanne graduated from the Rietveld Academy in 2022. She currently works in her studio in Amsterdam, where she creates her pieces of art in two mediums, paint and ceramics.

Through her paintings she intrigues the viewer by leaving out essential parts of het subject. We see a towel, but is seems to float, the shape over which the towel is draped isn’t visible, which leaves the viewer guessing. On the other hand her ceramic towels are sturdy, the softness of the towel is captured in its ceramic body, fixed and as hard as stone.

Artist's statement
'In my work I play with (distorting) perspective. Perspective is something personal, ambiguous and based on assumptions. What I see is inherent to what I expect to see. My works are a reaction to questioning these assumptions of my own and how they constitute the way I look at the world around me.'
